30by30 on land in England: Delivery plan

The Government recently published 30by30 on land: Delivery plan.

The “30by30 on land: Delivery Plan” is the UK Government’s framework for achieving its commitment to see 30% of England’s land effectively conserved and managed for nature by 2030. It states that this is not just about creating more protected areas, but about improving the quality of nature management across the country, in farms, woodlands, wetlands and existing conservation sites.

Defra have advised that:

"This document explains how the government will deliver its commitment to protect 30% of land for nature in England by 2030.

It sets out how we will work with and support stakeholders and landowners to manage and protect their land for nature for the long term and contribute towards our 30by30 commitment.

This plan complements the vision and criteria for 30by30 on land, published in 2024

The plan sets out:

  • a tiered approach for assessing areas of land to contribute to 30by30 (gold, silver and bronze)
  • how the criteria will be applied in assessing land
  • other actions to make it easier for landowners to help deliver 30by30 on the ground
  • other actions the government is taking to strengthen efforts in delivering 30by30"
